RV Photos That Sell: The Complete Shot List and Setup Guide
Buyers decide in the first three photos whether your rig is worth a message. On the dealer side we knew this cold: the same unit with a proper photo set gets multiples of the inquiries. You don't need a camera — every shot below works on a phone. You need light, angles, and completeness.
Setup: fifteen minutes that change everything
- Golden hours win. Shoot within two hours of sunrise or sunset — even overcast beats noon shadows.
- Move the rig. Open pavement or a clean campsite backdrop; never the side yard with the trash cans and the tarp.
- Stage the inside. Slides out, lights on, blinds open, counters clear, toilet lid down, personal items gone. It should look like a rental ready for check-in.
- Landscape orientation, phone level. Vertical photos waste half of every marketplace preview.
The shot list (in the order buyers should see them)
- The hero: front three-quarter angle, whole rig in frame, golden light. This is your thumbnail — take twenty and keep the best one.
- All four exterior corners plus straight-on front and rear.
- The roof. The photo almost nobody posts and every serious buyer asks about. Sealed seams and clean membrane up front = instant credibility.
- Tires with date codes and tread visible.
- Hitch/pin box or engine bay (towable vs motorized), plus the chassis/underbelly if presentable.
- Main living area from the entry, slides out.
- Kitchen wide + appliance close-ups; bath including shower condition; bedroom with mattress visible.
- Every storage bay, open. Empty, clean bays photograph like honesty.
- The data plate (VIN/weights) and the control panel showing battery/tank levels working.
- The flaws, on purpose. The scratch, the worn dinette corner. Priced-in flaws build trust; discovered flaws kill deals at the showing.
Twenty to thirty photos total. More is fine; fewer starts costing you inquiries.
The five inquiry-killers
- Three photos total (reads as “hiding something”)
- Night or dark-interior shots
- Clutter — buyers can't see the rig through your gear
- Thumbnails of the interior instead of the exterior hero
- Heavy filters (buyers assume the colors are hiding stains)
